The Peach County High School Wrestling program has received a $5,000 grant from the Flint Energies Foundation to help purchase a new wrestling mat.

The additional mat comes at an exciting time for the program, which has grown from approximately 20 wrestlers to more than 30. Girls wrestling has seen especially strong growth, increasing from just two athletes to 12.

With varsity and middle school wrestlers currently sharing one mat, the new equipment will provide more space for safer and more effective practices. It will also create opportunities for the junior varsity team to host home matches and tournaments as the program continues to grow.

Flint Energies Foundation awards $10,000 to Peach County organizations

The Flint Energies Foundation awarded $10,000 in grants to organizations serving Peach County, supporting youth athletics and educational programming. 

Peach County Wrestling Team, represented by Harrison Gore, received $5,000 to purchase a new wrestling mat. The program has experienced significant growth, increasing from 20 to more than 30 wrestlers, while girls’ participation has grown from two to 12 athletes. With varsity and middle school teams currently sharing one mat, the additional mat will provide more space for safer practices, allow the junior varsity team to host home matches and tournaments, and create opportunities for continued program growth.

Peach County 4-H SAFE, represented by Victoria Tucker, Shane Scott, and Jeff Cook, was awarded $5,000 to purchase a larger trailer equipped with a ramp. The program’s shotgun team and new archery program serve up to 25 participants, but the current trailer has limited capacity and makes loading and transporting heavy equipment difficult. The new trailer will provide safer loading and unloading, better organization, and additional capacity to support team travel, camps, and future growth.

The Flint Energies Foundation provides grants to local non-profits such as this one using money donated by Flint Energies Consumer-members through Operation Round Up®. The electric cooperative’s Members contribute $175,000 annually to the Flint Energies Foundation, which supports worthy causes in the 17 counties it serves. Operation Round Up is a way for participating Members to support multiple charitable organizations by simply allowing Flint Energies to round up their bills to the nearest dollar. Donations to Operation Round Up, which average only about $6 per year per member, are tax deductible. About 40% of Flint’s Membership participates in Operation Round Up, but that percentage continues to decline.
