The Peach County FFA Chapter in Fort Valley, GA celebrated FFA Week on February 12-16, 2024. County Commissioner Mr. Martin Moseley signed a Proclamation declaring the Week of February 12-16, 2024 as FFA Week for Peach County, Georgia. FFA members at Peach County High School conducted several activities that advocated for agriculture, provided opportunities for students to become involved in leadership and career development, and opportunities to give back to the community.

On February 12th, members from Peach County High dressed up in their best “Construction Gear” and started collecting funds in the annual “Kiss the Goat Fundraiser” where students and staff could vote for a PCHS administrator to kiss a real live goat. Funds raised throughout the week will be donated to the Georgia Foundation for Agriculture to be used to support students in Agricultural Education courses throughout the state. On February 13th, FFA members attended the chapter meeting and learned more about the importance of purchasing locally and Georgia Grown products for their everyday meals. On February 14th, FFA members received a gift of appreciation from the FFA Chapter as a thanks for their hard work and dedication to the organization. Students also had the opportunity during lunch to learn more about the Agricultural Education pathways available at Peach County High School. On this same day, FFA members created Valentine’s Day arrangements to be donated to the residents of Villa Rose in Byron.

On February 15th, the Sr. Nursery Landscape Team placed 7th overall at the Area 3 Career Development Event at Camp John Hope in Fort Valley. Team Members were: Jose Martinez, Angela Martinez, Miko Wilds, and Hannah Shields. Jose placed 10th overall highest individual!!! The Agricultural Mechanics Team placed 3rd overall at the Area 3 Career Development Event hosted at Camp John Hope as well. Team Members were: Stetson Crane, Brayden Sanders, John (JT) Stokes, and Jackson Wells. Lastly, the Jr. Nursery Landscape team also competed that day and placed 2nd Overall in the Area 3 contest! FFA members Avery Yaughn, Jazlyn Childs, Callie Brewer, and Alyssa Wiggins will be advancing to the State Contest on March 16th to compete against the top schools in the state. On this same day, our teachers and staff were also encouraged to participate in their own Mock CDE created by our FFA members. They were tested on their knowledge of the FFA organization and common species and tools
used in various careers in the agricultural industry. Our teachers, staff and students had fun while learning more about the agriculture industry. 

Lastly, on February 16th, the winner of the “Kiss the Goat” contest was revealed to be Assistant Principal and Athletic Director, Mr. Greg Ellison. That afternoon the students, staff, and the FFA goat gathered for the event and
celebrated the accomplishment of raising approximately $200.00 for the Georgia Foundation for Agriculture.

The Peach County FFA Organization continues to grow. The Peach County FFA Chapter consists of over 220 FFA members and is one of over 390 FFA chapters in the state of Georgia.
