Dear Parents,

It really is a pleasure to have your child in my class. I believe in education, in learning, and in the opportunities that an education offers, no matter what your later path in life. You can see more about that on the "About Me" page.

As for what to expect in and from my class, I do not take work unless it is complete and I will return work to students if something needs to be corrected before I grade it. However, if they receive a low grade on a daily work assignment, I do allow them to redo it. I do not see any reason to stop the learning process because of a grade, meaning there is always an opportunity to learn. I hope this means that the students will pay attention to directions, which are usually written on the board or given to them on a sheet. However, if the student obviously tried in completing the assignment, I do not take off late points for having them fix it for a better grade.

Three things I always expect when I grade are content, completion and neatness. Neatness is important to me because I've seen it work to my advantage in networking, in getting a job, and gaining respect my educational community. It has opened doors for me. My brother was working in a minimum wage job, and within a few weeks was pulled up into management because of making sure the details were right. It is so important for students to take the time to follow directions and do it right. It was something my parents drilled into us, and I believe that I am supporting you in an effort to do the best for your child.

This does not mean they are alone! I model the assignments and the thinking. I do one on one conferences with students to aid in improvement and I talk with them. I give opportunities to improve. I hope this will lead them to success no matter what they do!

My passion is educating, and I hope that for the short time your child is in my class I have the opportunity to help them on their path to their future.

Ms. Lycett
